Eusebius of Nicomedia

Eusebius of Nicomedia
(d. c. 342)
   Patriarch and Heretic.
Eusebius was a fellow student of arius at the school of lucian in Antioch. After a time as Bishop of Berytus, he was consecrated Bishop of Nicomedia and subsequently became Patriarch of Constantinople. He officiated at the baptism of the Emperor constantine and was equally influential with the Emperor Constantius. Because of his connections, he was able to secure the deposition and exile of athanasius in 336 and again in 339. Although he put his name to the Creed of the Council of Nicaea in 325, his lack of sympathy with Nicaean views was well known.
